EUREKA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say they have captured a man suspected of attempted murder for allegedly striking and injuring a U.S. Forest Service officer with his vehicle.

Federal, state and local officers on Thursday arrested Silverio Sanchez, of Eureka while he was hiding inside a house in Eureka.

The 23-year-old Sanchez was wanted on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and other charges in connection with a chase in March.

Authorities say Sanchez fled on foot on March 15 following the chase. He was wanted by authorities on suspicion of rape and other charges.

Officials say the forest service officer was injured after being struck by the suspect’s vehicle as shots were fired by USFS officers.

Sanchez is being held on $5.41 million bail at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.
