STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut judge has told a former Bush administration lawyer charged with attempted murder that he can’t use a mental state defense at his upcoming trial.
Superior Court Judge Richard Comerford in Stamford also told John Michael Farren on Thursday that he would not allow the former White House counsel for President George W. Bush to make a mockery of the judicial system by employing more delaying tactics. The judge said the trial would go forward next month.
The Advocate of Stamford reports (https://bit.ly/1joCM0F ) that Farren called the judge’s ruling “absolutely unjust” and vowed to appeal to a higher court.
Farren is representing himself in the case. Prosecutors say he nearly beat his wife, Mary Margaret Farren, to death at their New Canaan home in January 2010.
