CHICAGO (AP) - Illinois health officials say they’re aware that an American infected with a mysterious Middle East virus was on a flight to Chicago last week and then traveled by bus to Indiana.
The Illinois Department of Public Health said Friday they’re working with federal and Chicago public health agencies to investigate the first U.S. case of Middle East respiratory syndrome, or MERS.
Health officials say they don’t consider passengers on the plane or the bus to be at high risk. But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will contact them beginning Saturday as a precaution.
If the CDC identifies anyone sick with possible MERS, it will notify Chicago and Illinois health departments.
Illinois residents and medical professionals who have concerns or questions should call 1-844-565-0256.
