PLUM, Pa. (AP) - A tractor-trailer fire has been slowing westbound traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Pittsburgh.

The fire was reported just before 1 p.m. Friday on the shoulder of the road in Plum Borough, about halfway between the Monroeville/Pittsburgh exit at mile marker 57 and the Allegheny Valley exit at mile marker 48.

All westbound traffic was halted for a time, though one lane was open by 2:30 p.m., though turnpike officials were still reporting heavy delays.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire, who owns the truck, or whether anyone was injured.

The Monroeville exit leads to Interstate 376, the major artery carrying traffic into and through Pittsburgh from its eastern suburbs. The Allegheny Valley exit leads to Route 28, the major artery linking the city with its northeastern suburbs.
