Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling is battling prostate cancer, several news outlets reported.
The New York Post first reported the NBA-banned team owner, who’s 80, has the disease. Several sources confirmed the health condition to ESPN.
“If that is true, my thoughts and prayers are with him,” said Clippers star forward Blake Griffin after the team’s Game 6 loss to the Golden State Warriors, The Washington Post reported. “Nobody deserves to go through something like that.”
NBA commissioner Adam Silver handed down a lifetime ban to Mr. Sterling over racially charged comments he was caught making about blacks. He was also fined $2.5 million, while the NBA advisory and finance committee met and “unanimously agreed to move forward as expeditiously as possible” to boot Mr. Sterling from team ownership, The Post reported.
