WASHINGTON (AP) - Former District of Columbia mayor Marion Barry is criticizing HBO and two journalists over their involvement in a movie about his life.

Barry issued a series of tweets on Friday accusing the network and reporters Tom Sherwood and Harry Jaffe of trying to profit from his life story. The HBO project is based on “Dream City,” a 1994 book by Sherwood and Jaffe.

Barry tells The Washington Post (https://tinyurl.com/nhadssb) that he’s “very upset” about the HBO project. Barry is hoping to sell the movie rights to his upcoming autobiography, “Mayor for Life.”

Barry served six months in federal prison after he was videotaped smoking crack cocaine in an FBI sting operation. He was later elected to a fourth term as mayor and is now a D.C. councilmember.
