FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A subsidiary of British defense conglomerate has broken ground on a $46 million electronics manufacturing center in Fort Wayne.
The Journal Gazette and The News Sentienl report plans to build the facility near Fort Wayne International Airport. Planning for the project took three years.
BAE Systems’ local Operations Director Bob Hoffman says that even after construction of the facility is completed, thousands of pieces of manufacturing equipment will have to be moved into the new, 334,000-square-foot building.
The manufacturer has consolidated production over the years, moving jobs to Fort Wayne from Texas in 2009 and 2012. No additional jobs are planned because of the expansion.
The company is now located in a World War II-era former General Electric plant. BAE Systems employs more than 1,000 in Fort Wayne.
