MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - Some female pilots have painted a useful tool for pilots landing at the municipal airport in Mason City.

The Iowa Chapter of the Ninety-Nines International Chapter of Women Pilots gathered Sunday to paint a compass rose on a ramp at Mason City Municipal Airport. The artwork was painted white with blue borders. The airport supplied the paint and other supplies.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1n9y4If ) pilots will use the compass to calibrate the accuracy of their aircraft compasses.

Dave Sims, operations manager at the airport, says the compass rose will be a handy tool.
