PHOENIX (AP) - Two people killed in the Phoenix area’s latest fatal wrong-way accident were two young adults from Mesa.
The state Department of Public says those killed in the accident early Sunday morning on the Loop 202 San Tan Freeway in Gilbert were 25-year-old Michael Ruquet and 20-year-old Ashley Adea.
The DPS says the driver of a wrong-way pickup truck that collided with Ruquet’s vehicle was 68-year-old Patricia Murphy of Chandler. She and her 9-year-old grandson were seriously injured.
The DPS says detectives are looking into whether Murphy was impaired.
A May 12 head-on wreck in Tempe killed an off-duty Mesa police officer and a Phoenix wrong-way driver. Three people were killed in a wrong-way accident on Interstate 17 north of Phoenix on Friday.
