PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Oregon State Police say two men have been cited in an investigation of illegal crabbing off Cape Falcon along the north coast of Oregon.
In a statement Monday, the police said the investigation began in December and led investigators to recover more than 150 crab pots this month, many with rotting crabs or crab parts.
The police identified the owner of the fishing vessel Valkyrie as 34-year-old Aron Steinbach of Bay City and said he was accused of several violations, including not having tags for buoys and pots, setting crab pots for more than 14 days without taking them in, and wasting the crab.
Police say a man who had once been captain of the Valkyrie, 30-year-old Thomas White of Nehalem, was cited for not having a commercial fishing license.
