BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The North Dakota Department of Transportation will begin issuing redesigned driver’s licenses this week that feature revamped security features.

The new licenses have a different background color, improved printing and image overlap. Officials say these features will reduce counterfeiting.

The changes apply to all types of licenses including minor driver’s licenses and permits.

The department will begin issuing the new licenses at motor vehicle offices in Bismarck. Locations in other parts of the state will issue the new licenses later this spring and summer.

Drivers do not need to renew their current licenses until they expire.
