CHICAGO (AP) - Officials with the Metra commuter rail agency say construction on a new station in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood has been delayed until next year.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that (https://tinyurl.com/pw9aqj9 ) Metra is still acquiring land for the new $15 million Union Pacific-North station, so won’t break ground until next spring. Officials had hoped construction would begin this spring.

Metra spokesman Michael Gillis calls last year’s timetable an “estimate.”

He’s says land acquisition has taken longer than expected. Metra is acquiring property owned by the Chicago Housing Authority on the city’s North side.

Gillis says the agency plans to bid the project later this year, then wait for better weather and begin construction in spring 2015.

Construction will take a year.
