ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Howie Hawkins has won the Green Party’s nomination for governor in New York.

Hawkins, who finished third in the 2010 governor’s race, was picked to lead the Green Party’s ticket again during its convention this past weekend in Troy.

Hawkins is a resident of Syracuse, a longtime activist and an employee of UPS. He supports raising the minimum wage, increasing investments in renewable energy and public transportation, a ban on hydraulic fracturing and higher taxes on wealthy earners.

Hawkins won nearly 60,000 votes to finish third in the 2010 race behind Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Carl Paladino.

Other candidates winning Green Party nominations include New York City educator Brian Jones for lieutenant governor, Bronx attorney Ramon Jimenez for attorney general and Albany resident Theresa Portelli for state comptroller.
