TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Assembly Democrats have introduced a package of bills designed to improve and expand vocational education in New Jersey.
Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto and Assembly Education Committee chairman Patrick Diegnan Jr. say the eight bills they announced Monday will improve employment opportunities for students seeking vocational-technical careers.
The two legislative leaders say improvements are needed to ensure all students in the state are prepared for work.
The New Jersey Business and Industry Association spoke in support of the bills. It says the legislation would help ensure that entry-level employees are prepared and that workplaces have a pipeline of skilled workers.
The New Jersey Council of County Vocational-Technical Schools says there are more applicants for vo-tech education than can currently be accommodated.
Prieto says one of the bills would help expand capacity.
