A tragedy struck dozens of children on their way home from church when the bus they were riding caught fire, killing 32 of them.

The disaster happened near the city of Fundacion, and Colombian authorities are warning the death toll could rise, The Associated Press reported.

About 50 people were on the bus, and the survivors were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, but the severity of their conditions isn’t yet known, AP said.

Mayor Luz Estella Duran said investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.

Most of the people aboard were youth, and they had just attended a service at an evangelical Christian church, AP said.
