AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas will offer a tax break next weekend to consumers buying certain energy efficient appliances.

The state’s annual Energy Star sales tax holiday runs Memorial Day weekend - next Saturday through Monday.

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs says shoppers can save money up front by not having to pay sales tax when buying certain appliances during the holiday weekend. She says the energy efficient products can also help reduce utility bills.

Shoppers are expected to save an estimated $3.8 million in state and local sales tax during the Memorial Day sales tax holiday.

The tax break applies to certain Energy Star qualified appliances.
