SYDNEY (AP) - Australian A-League glamor club Sydney FC has signed New Zealand striker Shane Smeltz on a one-year deal.

The 32-year-old Smeltz, who is second on the all-time list of A-League scorers with 77, has been released from the final year of his three-year contract with the Perth Glory. He joins former Central Coast striker Bernie Ibini as part of a restructured attack under new head coach Graham Arnold.

Smeltz, twice an A-League Golden Boot-winner, said “I’m coming here with an expectation that we can win trophies and qualify for the Asian Champions League.”

The striker played for New Zealand at the 2010 World Cup, scoring in its 1-1 draw with Italy.
