CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) - A 28-year-old man has been arraigned on a manslaughter charge in a fatal stabbing near a Little League field where kids were playing on Long Island.

Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/1sIRSzA ) says Michael Grusel, of Babylon, was ordered held on $1 million bond following Sunday’s arraignment.

Grusel is accused of fatally stabbing 20-year-old James Moran during a fight near the baseball game on Saturday in Babylon. He died at a hospital a short time later.

Police say a witness alerted an off-duty officer and the officer and bystanders apprehended the suspect as he tried to flee. Authorities say the fight wasn’t related to the baseball game. The police activity prompted the Little League to cancel Saturday’s games.

Grusel’s attorney says his client has a long history of mental illness and had been bullied.
