JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - More than 1,800 kids are preparing for a Jacksonville triathlon especially for children.

Racers 10 and under will complete a 100-yard swim, 3-mile bike and half-mile run. Eleven- to 15-year-olds will complete double those distances.

Sunday’s race is hosted by the non-profit Kids Triathlon, Inc., an outreach program that helps introduce kids to the benefits of an active lifestyle.

This year’s race will feature the new XClass Races, comprised of 90 of the state’s top youth triathletes who together have already completed more than 1,500 triathlons. Three dozen underprivileged children will also compete thanks to special coaching over the past two months.

This is the organization’s sixth triathlon. More than 8,000 kids have participated so far.
