STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - More than medicines are available at a Stop & Shop supermarket in Fairfield.

The Advocate of Stamford reports (https://bit.ly/1jJ6ycp ) that the retail store offers a Norwalk Hospital FastCare clinic at the front of the store. Located next to the pharmacy, the clinic treats customers for common illnesses such as sore throats, fevers, flu and colds, ear and sinus infections and allergies.

A spokeswoman says the site is the first Stop & Shop to offer clinical services and the model could be expanded to other stores.

Stop & Shop is a unit of Ahold USA, the parent of Giant Food, which has a clinic at its supermarket in Carlisle, Pa.

Dr. Michael Marks, Norwalk Hospital vice president of business development, said the partnership allows Norwalk Hospital to better serve area residents.
