CINCINNATI (AP) - Some caregivers of older special-needs children can now request a cart meant to ease grocery shopping.
Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. says nine stores in southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky now have what’s called “Caroline’s Cart,” designed for those who are too big to fit comfortably into traditional carts. Kroger says the cart has a latching harness with a seat that faces the caregiver, along with a locking brake.
Kroger officials say the cart spares caregivers from trying to maneuver shopping cars and wheelchairs at the same time while allowing the children to participate in shopping. They say it can accommodate individuals of up to 250 pounds.
The name comes from the 13-year-old daughter of Alabama parents who developed the concept and have enlisted retailers around the country to offer special carts.
