CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A federal and state partnership designed to help distressed communities in northern New Hampshire and other states in the region is now accepting grant applications.

The Northern Border Regional Commission will award $4.5 million later this year across the 36-county region of northern New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

In New Hampshire, organizations in Carroll, Grafton, Coos and Sullivan counties are eligible for matching grants in several categories, including transportation and telecommunications infrastructure, business and workforce development and tourism promotion.

Last year, the commission awarded $350,000 in New Hampshire.

Applications are due June 23.
