ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The Anchorage School District is proposing to reinstate about the 60 percent of the classroom teaching positions that were eliminated earlier this month.

Superintendent Ed Graff on Friday proposed brining back 86 of the 143 jobs that were cut to cover a multi-million funding gap.

The Anchorage Daily News reports that (https://is.gd/NAtSuZ ) the money gap has shrunk since the Anchorage Assembly approved the district’s budget in April.

Graff says attrition lessened some of the planned cuts, as well as additional money from the state and municipality.

The Anchorage School Board on Monday will hear the superintendent’s proposal and decide which jobs to bring back.
