MORRISTOWN, Vt. (AP) - Morristown officials are recommending that people and their pets avoid the Lamoille River this weekend after more than 1 million gallons of unchlorinated wastewater was accidentally released into the waterway.

The Hardwick Treatment Facility leaked the wastewater over 20 hours on Friday. The discharge was caused by a failure at the facility.

The wastewater is treated but not disinfected.

Morristown officials are urging people and their pets to stay out of the river until Monday.
