NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The University of New Orleans has received a $100,000 donation from the Louisiana Contractors’ Education Trust Fund, which will be used to support students in the College of Engineering.

Fines and penalties levied against violators of the state’s contractor licensing law are sent directly to the fund that was set up by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors.

UNO President Peter J. Fos, in a statement Thursday, said the gift will be used to support students in mechanical engineer, electrical engineering and civil and environmental engineering. He says UNO is the only university in the New Orleans area that offers degrees in those disciplines.

The only restriction on the gift is that it cannot be used for construction projects.
