LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Legislation to create a commission to manage and operate the Michigan governor’s official residence is advancing.
The state Senate on Thursday voted unanimously to require the proposed three-member commission to make recommendations to the governor and lawmakers on funding for the residence in Lansing. The measure going to the House would create a fund to pay for upkeep of the residence.
The bill wouldn’t put money into fund. It’d be up to legislators or private donors to contribute.
Rick Snyder is the first governor to not live in the Lansing residence since it was donated to the state in 1969. He commutes from Ann Arbor, though the Lansing house is used for functions.
Michigan spent roughly $350,000 last fiscal year on the Lansing residence.
