PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities in Philadelphia say a pair of transformer fires caused at least one manhole cover to blow off in Center City overnight.

Officials said the first blast happened at about 3 a.m. Friday.

Police on the scene told WCAU-TV that they were investigating the first blast when they saw a second one blow a manhole cover off and smoke rising from the hole.

Fire department workers responded and got the situation under control after about an hour.

PECO repair crews were also called to the scene. Officials didn’t report any power outages as a result of the blasts.

Traffic restrictions in the area were lifted before the beginning of rush hour.
