OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - AAA Oklahoma says about 621,000 Oklahomans are expected to travel over Memorial Day, which amounts to a 1.7 percent increase over last year.

AAA Oklahoma spokesman Chuck Mai says more people are traveling as the economy picks up. This year’s estimate is an increase of 10,500 travelers over last year.

According to the AAA, nearly 527,500 of the travelers - or 85 percent - plan to drive to their destination. That’s an increase of 1.2 percent over last year. About 83,000 Oklahomans will fly over Memorial Day, making it a 3.1 percent increase.

The AAA estimates that travelers will see slightly higher prices this year. Airfares are 6 percent higher, while mid-range hotels are up 2 percent and car rentals are up 1 percent over last year.
