GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A 57-year-old man has entered a plea in a multivehicle crash that killed two northern Michigan men.
MLive.com reports (https://bit.ly/RIRZze ) that Patrick Doerr pleaded no contest Friday in 63rd District Court in Grand Rapids to two counts of moving violation causing death.
A no-contest plea in Michigan is not an admission of guilt but is treated as one for sentencing purposes. Doerr is scheduled to be sentenced June 25.
Authorities have said Doerr’s pickup was traveling about 84 mph on Sept. 10, 2013 on U.S. 131 in Kent County’s Plainfield Township when it slammed into the back of a car stopped in morning rush hour traffic. Killed were 49-year-old John Pomeroy and 30-year-old William Kochis, both of Traverse City.
Seven vehicles were involved in the crash, north of Grand Rapids.
