LONGPORT, N.J. (AP) - A Jersey shore town’s water tower is smiling again.

Workers have finished painting a smiley face on the landmark 125-foot tower in Longport, nearly two years after it vanished in a contract dispute.

Mayor Nick Russo tells The Press of Atlantic City (https://bit.ly/1iSiYys ) the smile is a reflection of innocence for children and a diversion from a stressful day for adults.

The Atlantic County town in 2011 awarded a $600,000 contract to repaint and repair the tower. But the project ran into delays and complaints about shoddy work.

Longport officials hired another contractor earlier this year to finish the project for $91,000.
