LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Lansing school board has voted to privatize busing and authorize the layoff of up to 95 employees.

The Lansing State Journal reports (https://on.lsj.com/1mzb9TS ) Thursday’s decisions are part of an effort to reduce an estimated $6 million deficit for 2014-15. Potential layoffs include as many as five administrators, 20 instructional staffers, 45 instructional support workers and 25 others

The district will contract with Dean Transportation through an Ingham Intermediate School District consortium, which is estimated to save about $760,000 in operational costs annually. The district also expects to get nearly $1.5 million for the sale of its bus fleet.

Current drivers will be allowed to apply for jobs with Dean Transportation.
