SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Former U.S. Treasury official Neel Kashkari is giving his campaign for governor another $1 million, bringing his personal contributions to $2 million. That amounts to about 40 percent of his stated personal wealth.
Kashkari reported the contribution Friday, a little more than two weeks before the June 3 primary.
The GOP candidate has been locked in a fight with Republican state Assemblyman Tim Donnelly. Polls in April showed him trailing Donnelly.
The extra money brings the former Goldman Sachs investment banker’s fundraising to $2.7 million since mid-March, when he reported having $900,000 on hand.
Donnelly’s campaign has brought in just $165,000 since reporting $150,000 in debts in mid-March.
Republican stalwarts have coalesced around Kashkari as Donnelly has continued to try link Kashkari, who is Indian-American, to fundamentalist Islamic law.
