PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A grand jury in Stanley County has indicted a man accused of releasing 37 horses at the County Fairgrounds.
KCCR radio reports that 24-year-old James Pourier, of Lower Brule, now faces charges of aggravated assault, burglary, criminal trespass, vandalism and injury to animals. Defense attorney Robert Konrad did not immediately respond to an Associated Press request for comment Friday.
Court documents indicate Pourier had been banned from the fairgrounds on May 3 because of an April arrest on drug charges. Authorities allege that on the night of May 3, he confronted a horse owner with a pitchfork, and early the next morning let the horses loose.
The horses had to be rounded up in Pierre and Fort Pierre, and six were injured.
