MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - An ex-Vermont Medical Practice Board investigator has been fined $2,000 following his guilty plea in December to felony tax fraud and gun sales record-keeping violations.
The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/Tb3ilk ) that Judge J. Garvan Murtha of the U.S. District Court in Brattleboro issued that penalty to Phillip Ciotti of St. Johnsbury. The 57-year-old Ciotti retired from his state job in December.
Court records indicate Ciotti, a federally licensed firearms dealer, sold hundreds of weapons at gun shows.
Ciotti’s lawyer, David Sleigh, says the government did a lot of damage to his client for very little wrongdoing.
