PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a former Paterson school district employee to five years in prison without parole after she was convicted of misconduct and theft.

Prosecutors say Anna Taliaferro hired a company in which she had an undisclosed financial interest to organize parent conferences and then overbilled the district by nearly $200,000.

Taliaferro retired from the school district in 2008 and has been living in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The judge ordered the 76-year-old to forfeit her pension.

The state said Taliaferro lied on ethics forms when she stated she had no financial interest in any entity contracted by the school board.

Scheduled to report to prison on June 5.
