EL PASO, Texas (AP) - El Paso officials say they’re poised to offer a five-year contract to a former North Texas city manager to lead the West Texas city of 673,000 residents.
The El Paso city council is scheduled to formally hire 47-year-old Tommy Gonzalez on Tuesday. His salary will be $239,000 as city manager.
He’ll oversee an $801 million municipal budget and about 6,200 employees.
Gonzalez resigned in October as the top administrator in the Dallas suburb of Irving. He had held the position for seven years. He also previously served as city manager in Harlingen, in South Texas, and assistant city manager in Dallas and in Lubbock.
He’s scheduled to begin in El Paso on June 23. Gonzalez replaces Joyce Wilson, who announced her resignation last fall.
