BARCELONA, Spain (AP) - Espanyol and coach Javier Aguirre will part ways following Saturday’s final Spanish league match at Real Madrid.
Espanyol president Joan Collet says the decision is “mutual.”
The 55-year-old Aguirre previously coached at Spanish clubs Atletico Madrid, Osasuna and Zaragoza before taking over at Espanyol last season with the club in last place.
Aguirre, who is Mexican, says “the decision was taken at the last minute after days of discussion, we were still undecided yesterday. But we decided it was better for both parties to end the relationship now.”
Espanyol, which is 12th in the standings before its visit to the Santiago Bernabeu, did not name a replacement.
