NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Chris Coons says Congress needs to do more to help U.S. companies protect their trade secrets.
The Delaware Democrat has joined with Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch to introduce a bill that will help companies protect their trade secrets in federal court by creating a federal private right-of-action.
Coons planned to join representatives of DuPont, General Electric and Adesis in New Castle on Friday to discuss the introduction of the Defend Trade Secrets Act. All three companies have been recent victims of trade secrets theft.
Coons says trade secret theft costs companies tens if not hundreds of billions of dollars every year.
