PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The state attorney general has approved the affiliation between a California-based health care company and CharterCare Health Partners, which owns two Rhode Island hospitals.
Attorney General Peter Kilmartin announced the decision on Prospect Medical Holdings and CharterCare on Friday. He says the affiliation is in the best interest of patients, employees, the community and the state’s health care industry.
CharterCare operates Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence. Prospect is a for-profit health care corporation that operates several hospitals and primary care clinics in California and Texas.
The two have proposed creating a new company that would be jointly owned and operated by Prospect and CharterCare.
The health department must also give its approval.
