NEW YORK (AP) - The elusive British street artist Banksy will be honored as “Webby Person of the Year” at this year’s awards celebration of Internet achievement.

Webby Awards officials said Friday that Banksy was being recognized for his New York residency “Better Out Than In.”

Other winners announced earlier include Jay Z, Google and the crowd funding site Kickstarter.

During his monthlong stint in October, Banksy posted pictures of his work on his website containing clues on their locations. That spawned a hunt by fans who tracked them down, shared locations via social media, then swarmed to see them.

The awards ceremony is Monday in New York. They’re handed out by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a group of Web experts and Internet professionals.
