TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Tupelo students can do their summer reading on digital devices this year.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1g8tJSz ) that the city school district is making electronic books available as a matter of convenience for families.

Students can follow a link that will be posted on each school’s website, then log in using an ID the district provides. Digital books can be checked out for a specific time and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Assistant Superintendent Kim Britton says the idea is to provide easy access to books for children who might be on vacation or away with grandparents.

Summer reading is optional for elementary students in Tupelo. Some secondary courses have required reading.
