NEW YORK (AP) - A new report has found that parks in the Bronx need a lot of TLC.
The nonprofit New Yorkers for Parks says 71 percent of maintenance inspections were found to be acceptable compared to a standard of 85 percent.
The Bronx has plenty of parks but the group says many are neglected.
According to the Wall Street Journal (https://on.wsj.com/1mXokRg ), the borough’s largest, the 35-acre St. Mary’s Park, earned an acceptable rate of 59 percent.
The group says throughout Mott Haven, the borough’s poorest community board district, parks lacked landscaping, trees and equipment.
Its executive director, Tupper Thomas, says “The parks are OK but it could be amazing.”
A spokesman says Mayor Bill de Blasio believes every New Yorker deserves access to clean and well-maintained parks no matter where they live.
