KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Baltimore Orioles have sent pitcher Kevin Gausman back to the minors a day after a rough start against Detroit.

Gausman was optioned back to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday. The right-hander was called up this week and made his season debut in the majors Wednesday, giving up five runs on six hits and two walks in four innings in a loss to the Tigers.

The 23-year-old Gausman was the fourth overall pick in the 2012 draft out of LSU. He made six starts last season for Baltimore, going 0-3 with a 7.66 ERA. He is 3-2 with a 3.52 ERA in 15 career relief appearances.

The Orioles recalled right-hander Even Meek from Norfolk and he joined them in Kansas City for a four-game series against the Royals. The 31-year-old Meek was 0-1 with a 6.94 ERA in 12 relief appearances earlier this season with the Orioles.
