SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois lawmakers accustomed to the sometimes slow legislative process were visited by a celebrity known for his high-powered speed.
NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace visited the state Capitol in Springfield on Wednesday to promote higher blends of ethanol fuel. His appearance was part of an effort to push for more E-15 fuel blends in the state.
The blend is made up of 85 percent gasoline and 15 percent ethanol. Lower blends of ethanol fuel are more common throughout the state. NASCAR has exclusively used E-15 fuel during practice, qualification and races since 2011.
Wallace says increasing use of higher ethanol blends would help Illinois farmers and lower emissions.
The award-winning driver first began NASCAR racing in 1988. He has competed in 900 competitions since that time.
