EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Three murderers and a rapist testified Wednesday in the sentencing phase of the murder trial for convicted killer David Ray Taylor.

They said they never knew Taylor to cause problems when they were behind bars with him at the Oregon State Penitentiary.

The 58-year-old Eugene man was convicted last week of aggravated murder in the 2012 death of Celestino Gutierrez. Taylor previously spent 27 years in prison for murdering a Eugene gas station attendant in 1977.

Lane County prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Taylor’s lawyers are asking the jury to sentence him to life in prison.

The Register-Guard reports (https://bit.ly/1sREDyq) the jury is expected to start deliberating the sentence Thursday after closing arguments from lawyers.
