BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU’s flagship campus 2014 graduating class is shaping up to be a record-breaker.
Preliminary data shows the class is projected to be the largest in the university’s history with 6,367 students receiving degrees. That’s more than 2012’s 6,251 graduates.
The university said Wednesday that this year’s graduating class also represents the largest number of black, Hispanic and female students to receive degrees in the university’s history.
A news release says the figures include 570 black graduates, up from the previous high of 516 in 2013, reflecting a 10.5 percent increase. It also has 240 Hispanic students, up from 2012’s previous high of 218, a 10.1 percent increase, and 3,421 female graduates, up from 3,305 in 2012, a 3.5 percent increase.
Spring commencement is set for Thursday and Friday.
