BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - An animated film tracing the history of communication that was produced at Indiana University will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival.

“Humanexus: Knowledge and Communication Through the Ages” was created by an information scientist, an artist and a musician at Indiana University. The 12½-minute film traces the evolution of human communication from cave paintings to the social network Twitter.

The movie will be shown at three venues at the film festival through May 25: one for contemporary films, one for American films, and another for short films.

“Humanexus” has already been shown at film festivals in Germany, India, Indonesia, Sweden and other countries. It debuted in early 2013 at IU’s Grunwald Gallery of Art in Bloomington.

The production was funded by the National Science Foundation.
