LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - A bald eagle with 2 feet of fishing line tangled around a wing was found dangling from a tree in central Florida.

Authorities say a 12-year-old Lakeland boy waking up for school spotted the eagle from his bedroom window. His parents called the fire department.

Lakeland Fire Lt. Joey Delegge tells The Ledger (https://bit.ly/1nRG7qf ) that the 5-year-old eagle was swinging from a pine tree over a small body of water.

Borrowing tools from the boy’s parents, Delegge cut the lines that had ensnared the eagle, sending the bird into the water below. Firefighters used a borrowed kayak to retrieve the bird and wrap it in a blanket.

State wildlife officials say the eagle didn’t have any broken bones and could be released back into the wild next week.
