GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina farmers worry when cold spring weather damages the peach crop.
But Gaffney’s one-million gallon Peachoid water tank suffered during the winter cold weather.
The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported ( https://bit.ly/1jiaA15) that Gaffney officials are preparing to work on the water tank after chunks of paint peeled off the tank this winter.
The Gaffney Board of Public Works owns the Peachoid, which was built in 1981 and has been repainted twice.
General Manager Donnie Hardin said sections of paint started peeling recently, mostly because of the freezing and warming temperatures through the winter. Hardin says the damage is in the crevice of the peach.
Hardin says officials hope to have the paint repaired in the next several weeks. A full paint job is planned in the fall.
