QUINCY, Mass. (AP) - The father of one of two young men Boston prosecutors say former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez shot two years ago says they were “good boys.”
Ernesto Abreu held a photo of his son, Daniel, at a news conference Thursday. Abreu, who speaks little English, spoke briefly, sitting with Salavador Furtado, father of Safiro Furtado, and their lawyer William Kennedy.
An indictment Thursday charges Hernandez with killing 29-year-old de Abreu and 28-year-old Furtado as they sat in their car at a stoplight after leaving a Boston nightclub.
Kennedy has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Hernandez. He said the men were best friends who emigrated from Cape Verde to make a better life.
He said they weren’t involved in gangs and didn’t know Hernandez.
Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to the 2013 slaying of Odin Lloyd.
